Job opportunity - Manager of Little Penguin Community Coordination Programme

job

The New Zealand Penguin Initiative (NZPI) is seeking one self-motivated, organised and passionate individual to lead the community coordination, outreach, and conservation of kororā (little penguin) and hoiho (yellow-eyed) penguin species across New Zealand. This role presents a rewarding opportunity for someone to enact real change for some of the rarest penguin species in the Pacific.

As the programme manager, your job will involve empowering and supporting various community groups involved in kororā conservation, research and monitoring across the country. You will provide advice, leadership and support for the volunteers at the heart of penguin research and monitoring within their communities. In collaboration with a range of groups, you will collate research data into actionable conservation plans that result in positive outcomes for these penguins. The successful applicant will have great people skills, a sound understanding of marine ecology and conservation, and a knack for ‘making things happen’.

The aim of this role is to make a tangible difference to the well-being of some of the most endangered bird species in New Zealand. It is a hands-on role working with passionate people with research and monitoring of penguin populations. It is also a chance to help shift the emphasis from research to action, taking steps to protect penguin populations and mitigating the many threats they face.
