Our research and how we use it

ELI has commissioned the New Zealand Wetland Trust to undertake a study to uncover the causes of wetland loss in the context of New Zealand’s public policy.

The study aims to identify ways to stop the loss of wetlands across the country and improve their management. It will identify weak links in the policy process and recommend how to improve policy and policy implementation through advocacy, input to reviews of regional policy statements under the NPS process, and possible legal action.

This is a pilot study and the first report should be completed before the end of the year.
